Morgan Geyser, the Wisconsin woman who admitted to the 2014 stabbing of a middle-school classmate in an attempt to appease the fictional horror character “Slender Man,” has been found after briefly escaping from a supervised group home.
Authorities confirmed that the 23-year-old was located Sunday evening in Posen, Illinois, after she reportedly removed her ankle monitoring bracelet and left her group home in Madison, Wisconsin. Earlier that day, Madison police had issued a public alert noting she was last seen on Saturday evening with an adult acquaintance.
According to News.yahoo Police in Posen—located roughly 170 miles south of Madison—told CNN that Geyser was taken into custody at a truck stop without incident.
Background on the 2014 Case
Geyser was just 12 years old when she and her friend, Anissa Weier, lured their classmate, Payton Leutner, to a park in Waukesha, Wisconsin, during a sleepover. Geyser stabbed Leutner 19 times while Weier encouraged the attack. Miraculously, Leutner survived her injuries.
The case drew international attention after both girls told investigators they believed committing the crime would make them servants of Slender Man—a fictional, supernatural character popularized on internet forums in 2009. Slender Man, depicted as a tall, faceless figure, became widely known through online stories, photoshopped images, video games, and a 2018 feature film.
Both Geyser and Weier pleaded guilty to attempted homicide. In 2018, Geyser was placed in a psychiatric institution before being transferred in March of this year to a monitored group home in Madison.
Questions Raised Over Monitoring and Notification Delays
According to The-guardian officials, Geyser’s ankle monitor first sent a malfunction alert Saturday night. Nearly two hours passed before the Wisconsin Department of Corrections contacted the group home and learned she had removed the device and left the facility. Madison police say they were not notified of her disappearance until nearly 12 hours later, on Sunday morning.

The Associated Press reported that the state corrections department had not immediately responded to requests for comment regarding the delay.
Attorney Urged Her to Surrender
Before authorities located her, Geyser’s attorney, Tony Cotton, released a video on social media urging her to come forward peacefully. “We worked too hard to secure freedom for her to continue on this path,” he said.
Geyser was safely apprehended, and further details regarding her status and possible legal consequences are expected to be released in the coming days.
